PE clearanced out a bunch of theirs. I spoke with the guys in the showroom. They said they were specd to be soldered but what they received were crimped only.
I picked up a few bundles to solder myself.
Anyone know a source of well made test leads with alligator clips? I'm tired of the cheap, problem plagued, ones from Amazon and I'm too lazy to make my own.
Yep me too. I didn't go as far as pure copper ones though. I just bought 25 clips for about $6 on Amazon (nickel plated steel). I used some recycled 14 ga speaker wire because it had nice flexible insulation.
Lever wire connectors come in tons of configurations, I just loaded up on a ton last week: The two-in/four-out and two-in/six out are particularly convenient for coming off the terminal posts to the crossover.
Pretty much finished, though doing a last min experiment later today to see how CSS SDX10 meshes, which will require some more padding, vs dual E180's that committed to with xover and bulk of voicing done since seemed more even response and more sensitivity. Happy with how it is, just curious and not really enough time to force it to work especially since in the end I would like resort to my minidsp to make that combo work better - will see.
Then some listening test in larger room as last time when moved chunker 3ways out to fam room bass response was too strong. Which at first thought odd but might be rooted in that 'voicing' speaker in smallish room where a loudness effect comes into play where listening at a lower spl or output level than would in a larger room tricking me into 'voicing' too much bass. My skills at modeling and measure <400hz basic where try to stick to fundamentals of first getting correct-ish bass alignment and then hope my measurements and merging get me in the ballpark then listening and fine tuning. Something to improve on skill wise, but prob take a break.
Slapped together, well, repurposed 2 way with a tweeter swap to get under 300. Xover done, just mount and stick inside that cab. Though maybe I should check that result in larger room as well while I'm at it.
Finished my project a couple weeks ago. I've now begun the slow process of loading everything into my car. A few things always seem to get overlooked, so I put together a "packing list" and will be checking things off as I go along. It's going to be a very tight fit. Also put together a few "handout" type summary sheets for the judges, which show the crossover schematics. I think the instructions say that they want us to bring along a copy of our schematics.
My over 300 entry, the Full Waves, have been done for months. Still waiting on grilles to arrive hopefully today. The grilles may or may not be installed, depending on looks, fit, and sound quality.
My under 300 entry, the B Minors, were revised last week, and have been playing every day since. They came out great, IMHO. No more work needed...
Been done for 3 weeks. The Nine Tower project got a new port, insulation, and crossover. I stopped handing out information as the judges were swayed by what was written.
I didnt know i was supposed to have it when i entered something (first time) last year. Sounded like it was expected. And i think they added that as an officially requested item this year if i remember

I thought it was requested to supply to the judges, not to explicitly give to PE. Registration is closed so I can't see if that was realy on the registration form or if I'm just making it up in my head. sorry.
I enjoy it. There are plenty of good people to associate with. I often wonder if the judges are looking for designs that will benefit PE sales. Maybe or probably its not worth me dwelling on.
Last year, I was chatting about my entries before it began with Jerry, etc, and they all wanted a look through the writeups. Honestly, what could it hurt?

Read the fine print. PE is not known for a scrupulous behavior. I'm sure the fine print cedes your IP to PE should you provide said information.
Besides, why provide any information that can let the "judges" come to some kind of confirmation bias?

You're ahead of me. I'm hoping to take measurements tomorrow.
Lol!
I was at least testing....
Are those copper alligators?
Yes, got tired of 1 ohm garbage ones, so I made my own, Forget which ones I specifically used, but something like this,

Yeah, I also got tired of the errors introduced by the shitty ones, so I made my own out of 16awg, limited to 6" in length.

Ones available now should hopefully be soldered.

I use J-clips and they have very low resistance. Pomona is my prefered brand but even the less expensive versions work well.

I also use wagos they are great for prototypes and probably good enough to stay in the build.
WAGO 221 Lever Nuts 28pc Compact Splicing Wire Connector Assortment with Case | includes (8X) 221-2401, (8X) 221-412, (8X) 221-413, (4X) 221-415 https://a.co/d/8caO7BZ
Good copper alligator clips (clip only, have to use your own wire):

Everyone finished their Entry?
I'm still building crossovers...
Functional as is, finished whether I add one more touch or not.

I'm finished early for once. Takes away the stress.

So you are not going to tell them about your hand-wound gold inductors and your backyard raised bee's wax coated capacitors?
Did you mean weren't?
I saw several people hand the judges info sheets on their builds, I am not sure I saw one of them take a look....
I didnt know i was supposed to have it when i entered something (first time) last year. Sounded like it was expected. And i think they added that as an officially requested item this year if i remember
I am also going to be withholding certain information
Officially requested? Yet another reason to avoid this bullshit.

I don't see anything this year. Last year it requested a copy of the xo schematic although I don't think most people provided it.

Although if I think of it often, as I stated, I must be dwelling on it.
If I admit my own hypocrisy, is it still hypocricy?
