It would be real interesting to compare that Wavecor 7 inch with the Rival 176 woofers. But I would need more time and money than available at present.
But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
I think the DOTD would make a great lower mid in a large system, but the T/S parameters are pretty wonky for dedicated bass duty. Getting it to play 40-50Hz will take a double hit in sensitivity in the bass range with baffle step losses coupled with the tuning necessary to get to that range. On top of that, the weird tuning will kick in well below baffle step, creating two shelves in the response to deal with. A large, high gauge coil could help somewhat, but still.

I think you nailed it. This would be a killer mid. Sensitivity is good and Vance's Test Bench review of this driver showed the lowest distortion of just about anything I've seen him do from 200-2000Hz.
Tests here show this midwoofer to have similar distortion performance to Scan Revelator minus the benefits that the slit cone on the revelator provides.

I bought a pair too. Still sitting in the box while I finish other designs in progress. That large face plate (4.53") has me thinking 8" woofers.
I'm not sure it would work out well for a 2-way: F3 of 77 Hz in vented 1 ft3 (per PE) and 2.3 mm Xmax. Plus, due to its size, it would be hard to mate with a tweeter that can go low enough so you don't end up with a dispersion mis-match at the crossover. Perhaps a robust tweeter in a large waveguide (e.g. SEOS-10 or SEOS-12) plus a sub or two for the low end. That would certainly give you a high efficiency system. Or as a mid in a 3-way.
That driver is designed for exactly that alignment (with an aggressive low cut filter) to serve as an anchor to an affordable stage monitor, or possibly even as part of a top sitting on a 15-18" bass bin. Pair it with a compression driver and 12" horn, and a XO of 1000hz is easy enough. I wouldn't personally try to fit it into a home HiFi application.

The spikes at the top end maybe be my old amplifier/ dvd player. 2nd and third order. GRS4 PF
3rd=red?
InDIYana Event Website
Normally red is second order. If red is not third, I also see a turd.

Third is red as I recall
2nd through 5th

Thanks dcibel 2nd is red. more of my crs....
Here I thought maybe you could make them the color you wanted.... Been ahile since I've had Omnimic opened...

You can tell that purple is 3rd order, since it ends around 7K, 1/3 of 20K
I don't usually think about it that way, but you are correct. Good call!

Parameters are usable, not bad in a relatively small cabinet.

Anybody got the 5 off 50 code?

Another quad arrives. Couldn't resist. Have to decide what to mate these with.

Waiting on @Gowa to snag more 8¾" Rivals.
What do you guys think about this deal? I don't have time to model it today, but looks promising for a high efficiency TM or TMM.

OB mid?
Yeah, it probably would have worked for that (high Qts) , but I do not have the proper room for an OB setup.

What ya got planned for em?
I'd love to see an honest, blind listening comparison between that Tymphany and this ScanSpeak: https://madisoundspeakerstore.com/scanspeak-soft-dome-tweeters/scanspeak-discovery-d2604/833000-1-dome-tweeter/
Clearly two versions of the same overall design, one has FF, one does not, one has a superior xmax (and lower sensitivity), etc. etc.
That would be interesting. Fs is actually lower on the Vifa?
