Luckily I have more than enough on my shelf. Unfortunately I can't recommend them anymore as a diamond in the rough at these current prices. I hope Tom Zarbo was able to buy some before they almost doubled in price.
Also anyone thinking of building the Nola Brio project... it just got kinda expensive vs the performance.
The fibreglass 4 ohm version TG9FD1004 is excellent as well, perhaps even better for a couple bucks more. It is without a doubt the poor man's Scan-Speak 10F.
I have a few pairs of those Foster ribbons, but nothing built yet. They passed my initial quick listening test. I am planning to use them as super tweeters with an 8" wide range woofer.
Someone on Diyaudio used them and liked them, but how many designs use a super tweeter? I think they need to be crossed over at 6k+. But they liked them at $24, and they've been on sale for $14, so the sale price is good if you have a use for them.
I don't think they look ugly at all. The attractive truncated flange could be made to blend seamlessly into two huge 2.5" radius roundovers on a narrow 3 inch wide baffle board. If done right, you could make your speaker look like Chumley.
The 3" was about $100 when it came on the market, and the 4" was north of there. I would guess about $150.
That said- these are really long throw for their size, neo-slug underhung motors, the sliced heat-sink-phaseplug, etc. About the only improvement TB could do is give them the dimpled surrounds.
They have always been more than what I wanted to pay for them, but have always interested me.
Meh... just another marketing BS "Sales" flier with most items at regular prices and only a few decent things that are actually on sale. The only one that caught my eye is the little TDA7492 amp board that I've used a few times. Great sounding little amp board that is very happy being powered by a typical 19.3 Vdc, 3.xx Amp laptop brick. I bought a few in the past at $13, but I guess the current sale price isn't too bad.
Todays PE deal is a good one. The 830656 midbasses are very nice. My Indy 20/20 project used them. I've also built a small sealed 2 way with them and the DA25BG08-06. Geoff Millar gave my xo design a try and liked them too.
Their midrange is quite superior to the TCP115 drivers. Their biggest downside is they really need a larger enclosure for bass reflex, like 12-20 Liters. That's way too big looking for a bookshelf monitor with a 5.25" IMO, but a tall skinny tower would look/work good. Maybe even an MTM tower.
I used the 830656 in my 5th place 2012 Iron Driver entry. It was the iron driver that year and my speaker was the original C-note. They were going for $19.14 in 2012. I believe Geoff built a pair.
I built this MT with them and the XT25TG. They are part of the (hollow) stands they are sitting on so the total enclosure volume is 17 Liters. Their modelled F3 is around 34 Hz.

Yeah I saw that John but just below that it says "Import Tariff may apply to this part if shipping to the United States".
Madisound now has them at $23.40!
Madisound use to have them for $9.xx

The tariff was $2.70. I'm looking at some Visaton for a horn project.
I'm going to grab 4 of those and build this Nola clone to try something different. Can't beat the price of those drivers

Cheap but ugly https://www.parts-express.com/Foster-E100T10-Ribbon-Tweeter-8-Ohm-279-468
I can live with ugly.
Anyone have measurements?

Curious DOTD today: Tang Band W4-1879 4" Full-Range Driver, marked down to $233.73 from $274.98. Holy inflation Batman!!
I don't recall the initial price of those, they're CAD$252 at Solen, so I guess the DOTD is a sweet deal..

Love the SDS drivers for a solid budget build. I used the Peerless 830657 6.5" woofers, 6 each side in series - paralllel and they sounded incredible. For the 5 1/4 inch driver, the towers could be a lot smaller.

I noticed that almost all iron core inductors are back ordered at Meniscus and PE. Could not find one at Madisound as well. What's that about?
