. So you dont travel much into Australia ? Or venture out much?
Pre-COVID we traveled around quite a bit, mainly within Victoria (which itself is bigger than the UK), but have also been to WA, Adelaide, Barossa and Clare Valleys, Noosa, Byron Bay, Sydney and bits in between; just not the north or centre.
Friends of ours were on holiday in Noosa when the first inter-state lock down was imposed, so had to stay there for two months as they weren't allowed to cross the Qld/NSW or NSW/Victoria borders, although being stuck in Noosa would be rather nice. They ended up having to drive back via Mt Isa, then on to Darwin and Alice Springs, then into SA, then after two weeks' quarantine, were allowed back into Victoria.

Geoff , Im curious if youre familiar with Alice Springs ?
Haven't been there, unfortunately but must do so one day; it's a rather expensive trip by either train or air and driving there wouldn't be my idea of fun.
Geoff
driving to Uluru from adelaide is on my bucket list - darwin would be too far fetched, but Uluru / alice springs should be manageable. Someday, my family is not in australia any more, else this would have happened pretty soon.

We in Melbourne don't get the sort of Winters you can have in some US States, but in the first month of summer we've had the coldest temperature for many years: -5C and snow at Mount Hotham and 15C where we live, plus really heavy rain. Tasmania's getting snow even on low lying land.
It will of course get much warmer/hotter in January and February, when we sometimes get days over 40C (104F).
Our great-nephew just flew in from Iowa City this morning and was rather shocked that it was almost as cold here as when he left!
Geoff
Next week will be single digit high temps - in Fahrenheit. Double digit low temps. In C, our low temps will be tickling -30
Today is 45mph (72kph) winds and huge ass drifting happening. Ugh.
Anyone ever win the monthly giveaways from PE? Never heard anyone mention they have and it seems like eventually one of us would win something I’d think?
I won once.... it was a pair of the then new Designer Series Aluminum woofers. They were small, the DSA90-8 I think. I had no use for them at all so I sold them to someone at a DIY event for like $10.

Hey at least you won something!
I generally never win anything (PE or elsewhere). Kind of like my luck at picking the quickest checkout line at any giving store. The big exception is the door prize drawings at a couple DIY events. The absolute best being a pair of Morel Supreme soft dome tweeters I won in Iowa a couple years ago. I still need to use them in a project but they are so good I always say "nah, those tweeters need a way better woofer"

Totally my luck as well..never win much of anything either. Cool to hear people have gotten some things from the PE giveaways, I always enter and never hear anything about anybody winning.
I’m in the same boat with the Morel Supreme tweeters. Got a matched pair at mwaf and am still staring at the box. Can’t bring myself to use them for anything cuz I feel the need to build something elaborate with them lol..

Winning stuff....
Let's see, I won my first car at after-Prom. It was 1996, and the car was a 1987 Chevy Cavalier. Really nothing fancy, and likely put 1000 clamz into it over the following 2.5 yrs to keep it running. Smelled like engine cleaner inside.
I've won a speaker selector, a couple hats, some capacitors, various drivers, Tshirts, long RCA and Speaker wires, a 200w plate amp, etc at the numerous events I've attended over the last 20 years.
I've won a couple gift cards at work for various competitions.
Yup Yup ,made it out west of town about ten, fifteen minutes and said NOPE . Turned my happy ass right around and went back home. With the winds here and that snow it just F'in blows .
At the other extreme, Southern Australia is forecast to have 40C-45C between Boxing Day (26 December) and 31 December, which is not fun. For some reason, Melbourne is susceptible to the higher end of that range - luckily for us, we had a split system installed two weeks ago.
Our great-nephews from Iowa City will get rather a shock, as they're in Adelaide at the moment!
The temps have been dropping here 2 deg F per hour. Supposed to hit -9F absolute with wind chills of -30F due to the 40-50 mph winds. Got enough beer, staying inside for the next 2 days... stay safe my friends.

It was me Ron. I've been working on creating fake snow for a commercial. I must have pointed the particle generator the wrong direction.
Thanks a lot Tom.

sorry man, my guy had to have some place to dump it...

Where's global warming when you need it?

I won a class d amp for one of their online giveaways.
I won a Stahl soldering station and later a pair of Dayton DSA215-8 woofers. The woofers ended up at DIY Iowa 2017 in the Evil Barbs.

It's rare to win stuff, but we know people who have won:
"Tattslotto" first division, twice, each time about A$250k, which has about the same odds as being struck by lightning;
a Daihatsu car on the dreadful TV show "The Price is Right";
a trip for two on the Orient Express, including air fares, from sending in a coffee jar label; and
the "trifecta" (selecting first, second and third) on a 'mystery bet' on the Melbourne Cup, with a 50 cent bet getting a return of about A$9k.

They're $520 a pair here in Oz - not a bad prize!
Geoff
I won the wife lottery, if that helps.
Is she reading this?
Hell no, never invited her.
Never won much on MWAF door prizes but did take home plenty of gift certificates for placing

I never play the lottery. I do not go to casinos.
