How do you compare the ne149 to other higher end drivers like the satori and revelator offerings? It looks nice for sure. I've never measured the set i have. I am going to need to liquidate alot of my speaker stash here soon. Quite a few new unused drivers with the ne149-8 being one pair.
I'd keep the NE. It's up there with Satoris and Revelators. May be slightly less excursion than Scans and ohhh so slightly lesser distortion numbers but the differences are minor. It's more about application.
NE 149 is a good performer over all.

Yeah, it actually does look good. :)
    Is this a 5" that's commercially available?

@D1PP1N If you are getting rid of the NE149, i'll take it.

  • @R-Carpenter Can I get a pair of the wave guides only in maple or any light colored wood?

Sure. But didn't you have your own CNC?
  • I do like MTM's maybe i should just add another pair and use that as a top of a 3way.

I do have access to one, and getting it integrated in the baffle would be great. Wasn't sure if you are making the files available or just the add on waveguide.
  • If it's not for commercial use, I can give you the file.

hmm... need something that can cross to a 8" mid at 1800 or so at 95-96db
    Would the Bozhen do that?
The Bozhen is only like 90-92 dB IIRC.

Not for commercial, only a single design

    Hi Mike,
I agree with Roman. I think the NE149 is an exceptional driver and way under rated. When I hear them back to back with Rev's, I usually lean to the NE's rather than Rev's. Ya, I know that's blasphemy but that's what my ears tell me.

Its a very, very nice driver, IMHO.

BTW, I have measurements, I think. If you want them, send me an email and I'll attach and return. I'm out of town until the end of the week.

    Hi Jim

Can I get the measurements too?
sending you a PM with email id.
  • I decided to make front panel the same size as Dayton 0.38ft^3 cabinet for added flexibility.
The volume will work ok all tho the response I prefer is at 10l. Mounting holes can be added fairly easily as well as rabbet on the inside perimeter of the baffle. I guess, this would be for people who just want to put it together without making anything at all.

  • Beauties! Is that Mappa Burl or Bird's Eye?
  • TY
Mappa. I like the marble-like contrast.
  • Looks stunning!

With the tweeter in a guide, is there any benefit of the horizontal offset?

    TY
GRT not unlike majority of other ribbons has a near 180* horizontal dispersion. Guide shapes it a bit narrower.
Or did you mean, moving acoustic center back for easier phase integration?
In the standard version, the distance from the face to the foil is 14mm. Waveguide adds another 15mm.
Biggest benefit tho is lower distortions.

Think Jason meant the tweeter horizontal offset. Any benefit to having the tweeter offset on the baffle since it's in a waveguide and most probably not going to see the baffle.

    GRT-145 with aluminum guide.

  • Waveguide can retrofit flat face plate. It is slightly larger than original 104mm diameter cutout.
  • Hi All.
There's a new addition to the family. SRT-7
It is based on GRT-145. Slightly lower distortions, leveled out top end response. Retail price will be similar to GRT.
I have a few pairs of GRT-145-8 that I will sell at a very good price because of this newcomer. Send me a PM if interested in either.
    Thanks, Roman.

    I have a signature.
  • Received my pair of first gens today.  Thanks Roman!

  • Hi All.

RT-850 tweeter will no longer be available and been replaced by the newer model.
Support and repairs for RT-850 will continue as previously, so no worries for these who own it already.
The newer model is still in works and should become available closer to September. I am considering it for a replacement of Fountek neoCD 2 in my line arrays. Probably a slightly customized version to compensate for line array inherit problems.

The GRT tweeters are sold out at this point. They will still be available in the foreseeable future but the wait times will be longer.

SRT-7 is the tweeter that I will keep in stock.
The retail pricing on the SRT-7 will be higher than GRT . A bit over $500 a pair. But as always, pm is a good way to communicate.
First shipment is expected early June. If you want to pre-order, let me know. As always, first few pairs of the new generation will have a special discounts for the forum members. And please, :) publish and show your results.

  • New addition to Viawave family is OTW.
    RT-5W
    Changes.
    Straight, textured foil.
    Foil element reliability increased greatly.
The suspension is not sealed like GRT-145 so this is more of true ribbon design.
There are changes in the transformer as well. As with previous Viawave tweeters, a lot of time and work went in to designing rear chamber behind the foil element. Test data will follow.
    F X-over is around 3k so a small 2-way or a top of a 3-way speaker is it's home target.
Expected retail price is compatible with Fountek Neo X3.0 and Aurum Cantus G2
As with previous models, few first pairs will be very heavily discounted. All I ask is that you publish reviews. :)
In the future, RT-5 will have rectangular face plate option (raised response e.t.c.) and I am considering it to be my new line array tweeter.
