After registration, How much time is allowed for setting up your speakers?
Just have a Crown amp, but would like to briefly playback a few 15 second of music tracks to see how they balance in the room.
Looks like some of you are wrapping DIY capacitors! Cool!
Time allowed for setup varies. Whatever it takes. I can generally get set up in 5 minutes or less. After you get done setting up, they do NOT allow you to play short music tracks to set tonal balance. But they do allow you to give a short verbal description of your speakers, which will vary somewhat based on how much you would like to to say. I generally speak for 5 minutes or less. After you get done talking, they play a short white or pink noise track to set your speakers to the reference SPL level (about 80dB or so at 10 feet) and then immediately play the house tracks.
Ok thanks. will be interesting having real pros evaluating these.
I should add, that if you are in the "open unlimited" category, and if you are using a subwoofer that uses a separate plate amplifier, then you will need to "guess" as to what sub amplifier pot level setting to use before you get to the event. I test and guess at where to set my subwoofer plate amplifier pot controls based on how they sound at home, plus a small "fudge factor" based on experience.

Yes its going to be a challenge, all pot controlled drivers, the listening area at home ,hard surround is not sound soaked. I'm sure I will flunk the test.
There are far too many guy's on Friday night that do not have their shit together. How many times is there someone who can't get their rig to work. I find it disheartening. Okay rant over.
I usually speak a very short time.

I'm a fairly poor public speaker, so I like to keep it short and sit down before I put my foot in my mouth!!
I've never attended Friday. But It always sounded like a recipe for disaster. Too short a time to setup. Seems like it would guarantee getting things mixed up unless you are totally on point.
If I were to enter something I'd probably be taping over pots and switches to prevent them from being accidentally turned/flipped.. Getting a pack of different color tape to flag wire ends and their terminations on equipment. Then throw all the cables in a bin and test myself pulling them out of the bin randomly and getting it all connected as fast as I could. For me it is mostly out of respect for the event and everyone's time.
Or, if there are knobs/switches on the front and you don't want tape residue. Could pull the pot knobs once set, and take a photo of the switch settings to verify each one is set correctly just before you are on deck.

I think I'll do that with the tape. I agree wouldn't want to take up everyone's much time with setting up.
I don't tape over or pull the knobs. Instead, I use small pieces of sticky mail labels with arrows and stick them next to the knobs (gain: 1:30pm, xover approx 170Hz for my entry this year). If you do this, be sure to use mail labels with a good quality adhesive, because cheap labels can fall off during transport. The labels should be fairly easy to remove after the event.

Just gotta assemble boards, was gonna cram this in inside, but think maybe print a box and mount to back or bottom of speaker as inevitable will need to make some minor adjustments when move to fam room. These are a <300 small entry. Not sure how will hold up to high spl's in large room given the tectonic 3.5 'mid' itself 81db - odd the 4 and 8 ohm have same spl on paper.
Know usually they have 24 and 28 tall stands, do they have 31's at the event?
I might be one of the few 'large' (>28L) over $300 that are stand mount, preferably 24 stands around for those. For these indigo small <300, prefer 31 but 28 will suffice.
Waffling if make xover compartment under the speaker for added height or on the back. Currently the 3 wires are popping out of a holes, liquid nailed like caulk, in a recess that was gonna put a small binding post cup into but now that leaning toward external xover, could cover that up easier with rear mounted compartment.
Or maybe I just install some threaded inserts for the side PR where less fear of hole wear from going in and out, and just cram xover inside. Ug, the dang midrange section of xover of 3 ways unwieldy - but not quite like a PBN hehe.

Had these problems before, I'm NOT an electronics engineer so wouldn't want to steer you wrong. what I did was divided the crossover up and fit it into 4 speaker chambers. soldered connections to save space. and glued the heavy coils. good luck!
Need something? I have some 6" stubby stands I could bring. Though the vinyl covering was delaminating from the humidity last time I spotted them in storage
The 6-inch stubby stands would help assuming they fit on the PE stands. My tube amp speakers are only 12 inches high, so they are going to be too low with the standard PE supplied stands.
I'm super nervous about checking a pair of speakers as luggage. I have a custom-made cardboard box with foam. We'll see.
Matt said last year he would be making new more robust stands, and that we make bigger stand mount speakers than he expected. If the crates I hope to bring are suitable, the dimensions are 3 different numbers that could help many builds adjust. I know Todd is coming this year, and he had some very nice taller stands that he allowed others to use. We should have options.
The weather forecast for Springboro is looking really good. Mid 70's on Fri and Sat with dew points in the lower 50's. Winds ranging from about 8 to 13mph. Hope everyone has a safe trip!

Think positively! Maybe you'll nail all your levels on your first try!

For sure! were pretty excited about it, and the long road trip, will be a fun vacation anyway!
Yes, important, HAVE FUN!

Don't have a finished speaker yet, but my rooms booked...

I went with a separate external xo inna box and an umbilical cord to the speaker.
That's even better!
Anyone bringing any boxes to raise your speakers up? I though Nick brought some one time. I don't have any more luggage space for extra boxes.
Need something? I have some 6" stubby stands I could bring. Though the vinyl covering was delaminating from the humidity last time I spotted them in storage
Brad and I will either have my large crates or a set of 15" stands or both with us.
Good to hear you are still coming, John!

Aren’t the stands they have 28” ? I can’t remember if they’re usually too tall for big speakers or too short for small speakers
My speakers are also only 11” tall so if the stands are 21 - 24” I may need a little boost as well.

My luggage
Ha! That's awesome🤘🏼
In case anyone is wondering I emailed Jill she said the stands are about 25”
