Did anyone notice who the judges are this year?
Looks like Javad is replacing Vance?
Not sure when that change took place, just noticed today.
Or was it like that for months/always, and I am slow?
This is a very recent change. I checked it last week and Vance was still there. They need to update Javad's bio. The project pad is now over 100K, not 45K.
New here, first time to enter in Unlimited, going to need to bring an extra amp for the sub woofers, only for volume control. Says to be connected from their source, it appears the source is already filtered Lo pass 100hz pre amp am I correct about this? or is there an un filtered source? not much info about it.
From what I can tell by the preamp model #, looks like they would be using the cd inputs, and offering main unfiltered outputs with additional crossovers outputs.
Traveling from Virginia will be fun meeting fellow DIY speaker folks!
You can use either the speaker level outputs or preamp outputs, both of which are full range. The crossover is on you. That's the whole point of the competition.
How long is the drive for you?
In my short few years I’ve always been surprised they didn’t use something from their inventory. I presumed it was their attempt to seem more unbiased and like it wasn’t just a sales pitch, but I don’t know if some of the long timers have ever had a conversation with them about equipment choices
After registration, How much time is allowed for setting up your speakers?
Just have a Crown amp, but would like to briefly playback a few 15 second of music tracks to see how they balance in the room.
Looks like some of you are wrapping DIY capacitors! Cool!

Time allowed for setup varies. Whatever it takes. I can generally get set up in 5 minutes or less. After you get done setting up, they do NOT allow you to play short music tracks to set tonal balance. But they do allow you to give a short verbal description of your speakers, which will vary somewhat based on how much you would like to to say. I generally speak for 5 minutes or less. After you get done talking, they play a short white or pink noise track to set your speakers to the reference SPL level (about 80dB or so at 10 feet) and then immediately play the house tracks.

I still have work to do on the Pangolins, that is for sure. I could take the Hancocks as is.

I'm thinking about flying in to attend. Any recommended hotels?
The Holiday Inn and Hampton are both very close and good.
Holiday Inn Franklin has the group block.

Parts Express just has a set of full range preamp outputs, the rest is up to you.
thank you, Guess I'll have to see when I get there, hate to have to do last minute alterations.
anyway Good Luck!

I think that's going to work with my set up. 9 hour drive, we booked 3 nights at Holliday Inn.
I’m an early scratch unfortunately. A/C went and the replacement is killing my travel budget and work time
Sorry to hear.. Where would you be traveling from?
Will you also be entering the Open Unlimited category?
Maryland
Yes
They changed some of the songs....

Does anyone remember what amplifier they use?
I thought it was posted somewhere, but I cannot find it.
Memory says, Outlaw, but I could be wrong.
Just wondering if their amp will be as generous with low impedance speakers as the Crown one Ben brings in May.
Thanks David, Wondering if it is 2 Ohm stable or will it have a problem with this impedance profile?
Crown, or the Adcom I test with have no troubles with it, but Emotiva does not list 2 ohm loads.
It will be fine
If not, when it blows they can pull a Crown from inventory....

I'm suprised they arent using the new dayton hifi amp. Not upset just suprised.
