  • I like that color!

If I didn't go back over it several times I probably could have attained a lighter color like that. After the second coat it evened out but darkened more. It is super dark when indoors. But you wouldn't be able to tell since my camera freaks out when trying to take a photo of it...

The color correction brightens it up alot compared to in-person. And I think the multiple ceiling lights behind me was creating the horizontal stripe effect. Not sure because I don't see it with the naked eye.

I'm happy it was able to keep the pine at bay while tinting it. I'm surprised it ended up as dark as it did.. My previous experiences putting a clear under a tint was a much lighter result since it only allows a thin color layer rather than soaking into the wood. But it looks alot better than I feared it could.

Strangely, the instructions suggest one coat only, but does give instruction on dry time if multiple coats are desired. So that is why I applied it a bit heavy.

OK yeah I'll shut up about the color.. I put it together, flipped it upright and was rather shocked! It actually looks the business!

  • Looks great to me! Can hardly tell it's pine! Reminds me of cherry.
    Nice job.

  • That'll do! Nice job👍🏻

  • That turned out great !

  • Wow! That looks fantastic. Would never guess that was pine. Great job.

Thanks guys. IMO it was kindof a fluke that it came out the way it did. But that is why I like to wing it and experiment as I go.

Much better than crates on the floor. But for now it gets shoved in a cluttered corner. At least the window is north facing.

Now I need to figure out what to do with all the CDs :o

It's all in the sprayer. My Wagner Control spray MAX is discontinued and aproximate equivalent is about $200 now. I haven't heard much good about the handheld ones with the blower motor built into the unit. It is fatiguing enough just to hold the gun with a full cup let alone have the weight and bulk of the motor in there too.

Though I did just find this for $23 !?!

If the motor is the same strength as in mine that is an awesome deal for small projects like speakers! Mine sounds just like a vacuum cleaner. So I doubt it is anything fancy. The mechanicals of the gun look pretty identical. The internals are pretty simple so it is easy to clean.

I'd still suggest only running water based stuff through it. I have run oil based through mine before, but atomizing large quantities of oil based stuff gets very unpleasent to be around. I don't know how many times the plastic can resist mineral spirits. With results like these I'm looking back at oil based less and less anyway.

At the price of that unit ^ you don't even have to clean it between projects - just throw it away and buy another later . . .

The description lists the hose as only 6 feet. I would want at least a 20 or 30 foot long hose, like your old NLA model.

Yeah, I saw that. But for that price, I could find a way to put a shoulder strap on it or something like that. Cue the ghost busters music. =)
