I'll be bringing two projects to Iowa this coming weekend that use MAC drivers. One is a two way with the little MAC-04 and the other is a large MTM using the MAC-06 woofers.

  • We had quite a few builds at Iowa that used our drivers - thanks for the support. They all sounded great!

  • I urge everybody to go check out this YouTuber‘s channel and give him some support as he has given Midwestaudioclub some support and recognition to build a kit .

  • I think I've watched all of Brandon's builds, and I met him in person at SDC in August. Found out he's in Texas. He's definitely like the rest of us. His build video during the eclipse was pretty cool. I placed a comment in the vid comment section below.

  • Has anyone posted distortion measurements for the MAC mid woofers?

But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!

They are on Brad's big thread of IEC measurements. That thread is pretty buried at the moment, so might take some scrolling.

Here is distortion at 96db/1m for the MAC-05. (Measured 106db at 31.5cm)

  • For those who have built or heard the MAC-04 and the MAC-05 kits, is the JF 1204F tweeter better than the ND28F ?

  • I would argue they are somewhat similar in performance.

  • The JF tweeter has the standard 104mm mounting dimension - a plus in my book.

  • I have a question in my mind from couple of months, r you guys are suppliers for this website in india, because it looks like same like widwest woofer.

Very likely they are sourced from the same build house. That is not uncommon.

  • That appears to be an 8 ohm driver. The MAC-05 is 4 ohm driver.

  • There close but that driver does not have a vented pole, but lots of similar parts.

    PWRRYD
  • They are selling both 8 and 4 ohms versions in 4" and 6" models but in 5 inch i have seen only 8 ohms version @PWRRYD , also for 6 inch version have vent on polepiece @hifiside

If you are in another country I understand... But they are stupid-good value for the $ from JF (hifiside) in the US and he realy seems to care, so no reason to look elsewhere for most of us.

Ever since I ordered something from aliexpress I have been bombarded with scam calls. So YMMV with those other sites. Caveot emptor and all that.

  • Harsha, these JF drivers also fund the Midwest Audio Club.

Hello Gents! I'm batting around an idea for a large portable stereo boombox using the JF1204-F tweeter and MAC 06 woofer. Is there any slick way of adding a grill to the tweeter to protect the dome? I've been doing some googling and measuring the set of tweeters I have, and I'm not 100% sure what direction I would go. I see small grills that are supposed to fit over the dome, but I dont know if that would actually work. On the other hand there's always a 4" woofer grill that's a bit oversized, but should work. What does the crew here think? @hifiside and @jr@mac

  • Sorry I missed this tag. I think the 4" grill might be your best bet. Alternatively you might be able to fab one up with a 3D printer or find some steel mesh at a hardware store?

  • There are some Visaton grills that should be closer in diameter than a 4" woofer grill.

  • Thanks @jr@mac and @Wolf - This engin-nerd has been busy mocking up a 3D print version over the last few days. Two piece grill design that uses countersunk magnets to stick to the mounting screws of the tweeter. Screw portion of the magnet assembly pulls the top and bottom halves of the grill together and sandwiches some grill mesh I have leftover from my PA speaker build a few years back. I want to print this from PETG, which I haven't used before. Gotta tune up the 3D printer for that!

  • PETG prints well, if your printer is doing PLA it can do PETG.

  • Dudes, these Chachos fucking rock. Well done Craig and MAC/JF.

    tajanesjr@maca4eaudiojohnny5jzkenrhodessilverDSteve_Leerjj45PWRRYD6thplanetand 1 other.

So curious, what component is that on your shelf with (appears to be) yellow meters?

  • Looks loke a Fosi LC30

I’m an old-time fan of GAS son of ampzilla

Yes, Fosi LC30, speaker selector/amp selector. Never mind the tape it’s to block the annoyingly bright leds on the components. I have an adcom 7400 (5-channel amp and an outlaw audio 5000 (5 channels as well). So I can use the “amp selector” to use one of the preamps on the other 2 channels of the adcom. The Onkyo is multichannel preamp (PR-SC885) and so is the lexicon. The onkyo has a good phonostage that the lexicon doesn’t. I think they both sound great but I’ve been using the Wiim ultra as my preamp. There an old radioshackEQ there as well I was using when I was trying to do some designs.
