Workshop Speakers

I probably bought these over 20 years ago and have never installed them anywhere. The box says made in Korea! The packaging is absurdly good.

Based on what others have measured in old Inifinity speakers, I was super curious to see how these things did.

My plan was to build boxes for all four (4) drivers and mount them in between the ceiling joists in the roof of my garage/workshop.

  • You can see the "midrange" and tweeter are angled ever so slightly off the center axis. It was really interesting to see the FR curve both on the traditional axis and on the true tweeter axis.

    On the traditional axis:

    On the true tweeter axis:

And a family of curves between the four (4) drivers:

This is with the OEM "crossover" in place. I see just one 6.8 uF cap.

  • HD is decent, although all four (4) drivers had the HD2 spike at 600 Hz.

  • I tried getting the TS parameters off of them from DATS, but I've never really trusted that I'm doing the delta mass method correctly, especially when it gave me a VAS of 1270 cu. ft..... consistently.

What do you guys think? Maybe this is correct, as car audio doesn't really have the drivers in an enclosure apart from the whole car. On my IB they were free-airing down to 40Hz! Anybody have experience with this type of car audio driver being used in this application? Can DATS even be used here, as technically it's three (3) voicecoils wired in parallel?

Wow! That's a pretty smooth FR and good HD for only having a high pass cap. You're going to need to pad down the mid and tweeter quite a bit if you stick them in boxed (BSL). Or maybe just bring down everything above 600 Hz if you run them infinite baffle (in wall).

Probably obvious but you have to disconnect the mid and tweeter if you're trying to get T/S parameters for the woofers. For added mass I imagine the best way to do that is to use painter's blue tape to attach something like 4 nickels to the cone, equally spaced around the voice coil.

  • I have used measured amounts of blue tack to get VAS.

  • I have installed a alot of those 6x9's they are great drivers. Infinity was always one of my go to brands for customers that wanted better sound quality. I was an installer from 2001-03. B)

I usually do not get too concerned over an H2 spike

But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
