  • Looking forward to this piece of industrial music. What a cool place this is.

    I have a signature.
  • You'll need to come up with a name. How about: "Belt sander a-go-go" by Steve Lee and his merry band of speaker building sidekicks!

  • It's done....called it 80 Grit Down.
I just did some drums on it.

  • I'm still trying to map a new kit sound.
    Eric - you using grooves/patterns?

My work is done for me . . .

  • Thanks for sharing with me, Nick. That's pretty badass!

  • For my next recording, think I might attempt to restore one of these. It's been sitting at my local re-store for several months with no takers. Just think of all the interesting sound clips a device like this could make. ;)

  • I know you might already know this, Bill, but that tool can be very very dangerous. I would look up the Youtube videos on it by John Malecky, as he thought it was a mess. Then a person that was more familiar came on his show to show him the correct way to use it safely. Apparently, there is a high learning curve.

  • Run away, please - I have experience with that contraption [and its accessories] I no longer have it.
I did keep the stationary planer as is works well with some mods.
Nobody want those things anymore which is why it still sits there.

  • It would be nice for the lathe function, that's the only machine I don't have yet. I can't make out the price... looks like maybe $150?

  • Points well taken. Ya, I was just joking about this idea. Here is a close-up of the price tag. Not even close to what I would be willing to pay. And the main bearing is a little sloppy, so that is an issue as well.

  • Way too much for that contraption.

  • Yeah, that's a lot of coin for that.

  • "sander-sander-sander-sander..."
    "Here we go."

I love random metal remixes of songs, so this was perfect.

Just watched both vids. I agree. If I had one of these, I would probably set it up as a dedicated wood lathe and never change it. Which defeats the entire purpose of having a multi-function tool like this. Best to stay away.

  • There was one for sale here locally on craigslist. I think he realized there wasn't much market for them so he was only asking $200 obo. I thought about it for a lathe only too as I already have a nice table saw and drill press (Sears Craftsman 1981), but decided it would just take up too much space when I wasn't using it. Watching Youtube videos of turning odd root balls and such it sure looks like a fun side hobby though.
