I want to build a TWW using 8" woofers and the large AMT. If I cross at 800Hz can I get by with 16" CTC spacing for the woofers and tweeter. I'd like to put the woofers in separate boxes to keep the weight down.
16" is roughly 1 wavelength at that frequency. Old TWWs like Klipsch KG4 were crossed higher and folks still liked em. So I doubt you idea is any more "flawed". I wonder if any potential lobing issues would be kept below the seated listening position anyway.
Or could throw a coil in-line to the 2nd woofer to make it more 2.5way.
My plan is to go active and use 6 channels of a surround receiver. I'll use a MiniDSP 2x4HD and drive the woofers with their own amp channel using a Y cable from 2 of the DSP outputs.

If you're doing a TWW, have you considered a 2.5-way crossover? Then you only need to worry about the distance between the AMT & upper woof.

That doesn't mean you can't put a series inductor on the lower woofer.
