Was looking at PE site for the sale. Came across the plane from GRS. Haven't tried any or the previous B&G. Would like to understand what is what. The tweeter heard it in a few designs, but the rest not
What would be the realistic upper and lower bounds for the 8" thin and regular one vs the 10"?. Closed vs open back, would one over the another be better. Also price wise the 10" is mega bucks compared to the 8", but if it can go really low and XO to a large woofer or sub might be worth it. Would all of these play well with the tweeter? Any peculiarities?

I've used the BG and GRS Neo3's and BG 8's.
All taller planar drivers will have limited vertical response. The same physics that makes larger drives roll off due to their physical size apply to planar drivers. The taller the planar the lower they fall of off axis vertically. Because they are narrow, the off axis is OK horizontally.
The Cherry Pi's used the BG NEO8S dipoles installed in a sealed cabinet and crossed at 450 and 4K. I used the dipole GRS 3.5" tweeter in my Indiyana 2 way last year. I crossed it to an 8" sub woofer at 800hz using a modest back chamber I 3D printed. It's FR was the same as the dipole measurements and with my back chamber. This is the tweeter FR mounted in my cabinet.
I think all the planar drivers I've used sound great. They are efficient and have flat impedance so crossovers design isn't usually a problem. I have a pair of NLA BG 40" drivers in the closet if you want something bigger than what's available these days.
I haven't used the GRS versions, but I really like the BG Neo3's. I used a set in my Kamauri's in dipole.
I tried using the Neo8 as a tweeter, but it just doesn't have enough top end passively. In that respect, it's fine as a "mid-tweeter", just needs a super tweeter. With DSP/EQ it works fine as a tweeter, I'm using those as tweeters in my car crossed at 850Hz.
Hello, new guy here! While I don’t have an answer to your specific question, I’ve used both the original Neo 3 and the GRS version. Or more like I tried to use the GRS version but I found it’s response too choppy. The guy who designed the BG drivers now owns another company called Radiant that makes a whole like of planars that I would imagine are superior to GRS.
Thanks Ron, Eric. I had heard the Cherry Pi's quite sometime back, really liked those. Eric, I don't recall your
speakers. Tried searching for them, but didn't get anything meaningful. I would have used the 8" with the tweeter if I was going that route.
Do you need to use a big cap with the Planars like ribbons, or not requried. For Active do they need any passive components or staright to the amp is fine?
Ron, I though you had solf those big planars a long time back! I might be interested in them - Will reach out to you.
Welcome Alex!
Do you mean Radian? Weren't they into pro audio for a long time? Couldn't get anything for Radiant - do you have a link?
Planars don't need a cap, they usually measure whatever the resistance is notated as.
Radian is what he meant.

My Kamauri's were built in 2017.
Awesone. That is a single tweeter right, with faceplates on both the front and back? the yellow grill cloth looks great - nice match to the mid/woofer!
Yes, thanks!
Still love the look and sound of those, Eric!

The guy who designed the Radian planars doesn't own Radian. He was at Axpona last year, he's started a speaker company. He's using the planars with a Scan woofer in a 3 way system. I believe he also designed some of the HiVi drivers.
My apologies, the company is Radian, not Radiant. https://radianaudio.com/
No reason to apologize.
I think that's the same Radian that's been around for decades. We used their diaphragms in the big JBL compression drivers back in the early 90s.
Which sound amazing by comparison to the JBL diaphragms.

Didn't somebody bring the Radian drivers at Iowa a couple of years back? I haven't heard the radian planars yet.
Would that have been George @jerzy53 ??

Thanks Bill, yes it was George!
He still has dealer status Ani, if you're interested just contact him. The Lm10 is pricey, but the LT2 is pretty inexpensive.
