I do. While the main differences are that the Fs has shifted slightly due to the different chamber and the altered chamber damping; This likely leads to a more 'open' sounding tweeter than one off the shelf in my opinion. However, this is a theory yet to be tested. The fact that the HD has been reduced in this particular pair of RST28F is also not relatable to the measured HD performance of other unmodified stock because I did not do their measurements with my gear in my setup.
My stance about the sound is that the RST28F/A sound a little congested in the builds I've heard that used them compared to a lot of other tweeters I've experienced. This is not a major hindrance in their sound to most people. However, I feel the damping swap in the pole piece from foam plug to a cotton ball has made the difference and I am really liking the current sound of this speaker.
Clad the xover cases in Formica this afternoon. Baffles are next, then the remaining pieces will clad the inside and top of the cases. Didn't take photos, but will get some taken when xovers are in the cases.
Okay, got a lot done today. Baffles have Formica and cutouts are redone. Neutrik holes are bored in case I want to use either/or in the future for these swappable MonkeyBoxes. Tops of cases are adhered with Formica, lexan lids are cut to size, bored for mounting screws and trimmed to the case dimensions.
I need to make a quick short cable to connect 4-poles from case to box. The set I have already are not long enough.
I still have to apply absorptive damping to the spokes on the woofers. I think I can hear them ringing.
Finishing the wiring in the case and cabinet are also needed but straightforward.
The Philips heads are clamping the reinforcement pieces to the handle and terminal cutout areas.
They will be removed when those parts are reinstalled.
Humidity was awful today, I'm drenched, time for a shower...
Thanks!
The Formica I got from Clay @Eggguy and another sheet that I was intending to use. The Rustoleum faux concrete paint was too blue of a hue for the white-washed wood look of the other, so I went with this one. It looks like rusty sheet-steel to me, but not sure the intended resemblance.
Thursday night, I did add IMB 0.874uF (Hovland OEM, measured 0.8uF) across the series caps in the tweeter circuit, and i feel it added the space and air they were lacking with only the Dayton caps in tow.
Used these Speakon cables I made for them:
I felt they sounded really good Saturday. I was told they finished 10 points behind the leader at about a 154 total score, which is close to the middle of the group for their category. Jerry really liked them.
Thanks! And I have a few front views that I will be posting in the next batch. Really love that handle. Seriously thinking about putting a handle like that on my next build. Great Idea.
The versatile MonkeyBox is what i call the cabs. That handle was a bear to seal under too. Without sealing tape, mark for the correct hole positions. The corner edge had to be rounded to fit the handle snugly, so I had to cut a rounded relief in the edge. 2 layers of neoprene tape on the handle, and a single strip over the corners were required. I then was able to screw down the handle and draw tightly into the seaing tape. The Speakon and posts are in parallel. The jumper circuit was not in play or used, but could be. The input plates came from Germany with free shipping, same as the input posts on the xover cases. Baffles are swappable for other projects if I want, and the PR can be retuned to suit.
They weigh about 40-45 pounds as they sit currently.

Took smoothed polars of the final. There is minimal bunching from 2k-4.5k of only a couple dB.

So you think a standard issue RST28F would still work?

You do like to work under pressure.

Nice contrast!
Humidity is crazy right now. I'll grin and bear it over winter BS any day!!
Thanks!

It’s coming together very nicely
Keith AI generated their pictured location, but this is their final aesthetics.

I agree with Bill about the handle. and I thought it had a lot of interesting features.
