Is there a thread of reference tracks used for voicing and general speaker evaluation?
If not, I’d like to start one 😁
Drop a comment below with some of your go to tracks for either of the above, perhaps with a very brief commentary of what you listen for in the track.
Or, if this is the thousandth time this topic has come up feel free to drop a link to the previous discussions and I’ll gladly peruse that

My 'reference list' is just a collection of my favourite music, which ranges from pop/rock, jazz and classical music in a variety of recording ages and quality.
If that music doesn't sound good, that's enough for me to audition equipment. I also include some really bad or harsh recordings: if they sound OK, then I know my other material won't.

I majority voice off of a dozen different demos I've put together for various DIY events. There are a few songs I use in their entirety however.
The point is, unless you are very familiar with a track I use - it will not be useful to you. Gotta stick with music you know.
Also, you need a reference system - said system can be pretty much anything you are very familiar with.
I don't have reference tracks per se. More tracks I'm excited to hear on a new set of speakers in case they make em sound extra good.
But I will go through alot of female vocal and acoustic guitar heavy tracks, because I have found if there is a distortion in the midrange those will shine a spotlight right on it.
“How are you going to make new friends with that attitude, everyone is a stranger until you get to know them”
That was pretty much the reason for my inquiry. To see what tracks others were using so that I could familiarize myself with some new music to include in my process. A lot of the music I use now was music I didn’t know existed a few years ago and was introduced to through attending the events. However I feel like I have a narrow “field of reference” and was hoping to add some variety, especially if there was some tracks that had particularly useful pieces within it for that task.
That's fair. My apologies.
Almost every test track I use comes from one of the links in my first post or tracks from DIY get togethers including PEs SDC. One of the advantages of using test tracks from the get togethers is that my starting point with that track is sitting all day in a room listening carefully to that track on 30+ different speakers.
All the music I've used on demo mixes over the years at speaker gatherings are on my Google drive in wav format.

Quick and dirty
I find a lot of songs by Dire Straits work well. I also like "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" by Bela Fleck. It's got a lot of string picking and a bass section that will give the speakers a work-out.
Cosmic Hippo is smeary to me, but it does dig low.
