PE now stocks Beyma.....

  • Nice stuff.

    I have a signature.
  • I'd have some NFW woofers if they weren't so expensive...

  • Those NMF woofers always intrigued me; look quite interesting and robust. Almost like a pro audio based Purifi woofer.

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but I've never seen the value in Beyma.

  • They are not inexpensive drivers, but I've been impressed with the driver's I've put into projects; 12BR70 woofers, 5CX200Nd/N coaxials, and their slot tweeter CP21F (but it needed a couple of tweeks as described by Troels Gravesen).

  • Beyma T25M NMF Series 1" Aluminum Dome Tweeter
Frequency range from 1.5 kHz to 30 kHz? $149.25

Yea, probably should have stopped counting at 20.

  • But they only cost a little more than perfectly suitable drivers from other manufacturers, right?

It seems to me when a driver exceeds a certain price point, there is always a questioning of the inherent value. We as DIYer's are generally cheapskate's. We all need to keep in mind that a product's worth is a combination of the cost to produce said product and what the market will tolerate. Hopefully we're all experienced enough to have encountered products that measure well, but sound bad, and products that measure poorly, but sound surprisingly good.

You can get 80% of the sound for 20% of the cost. Guess what that other 20% of the sound is gonna cost ya..

It is pretty normal. Reaching past the status quo typically takes alot more time, effort, and cost until someone figures out how to reach that level cheap and easy. Then it becomes the new status quo.

  • Amar Bose did fairly well with that philosophy (selling to the masses) then doubled the price.

  • I work so slowly that I have focused on higher priced drivers the last couple of years. Don't want to waste money, but also don't want to waste my (precious) time with mediocre drivers. That said, I will be teaching a speaker building course at MAKE using a buyout 8 inch driver and a ND25 tweeter that people really like . About $100 a pair, including crossover.

But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
  • We each determine what is and is not a waste of our time and money. As an advocate for DIY for the sake of DIY, I cannot claim any of us are wasting time and or money.

Hell, if it were really about the time and money I would have never gone down this path. What I I've spent in money would have yielded a pair of Revel Salon2 with money left over for some nice wine. The time I have spent actively DIYing I could have had a part time job to pay for said Revel. I chose this path because it has meaning that transcends audio quality. Some of my favorite people in the world I have met through this hobby.

That being said, Beyma is worth the coin if you can afford it. Legit stuff.
